Elastomers

Polyurethane in industry

SUCCESS
In recent years the production of technical articles and polyurethane coatings for cylinders and wheels for all industrial sectors has assumed huge proportions. Polyurethanes can be seen as the bridge that unites the major characteristics of the best rubbers and the best plastics, as even the hardest formulations retain excellent elasticity and stretching properties. These characteristics are obtained due to the elastomeric matrix of the basic polymers which form the polyurethane molecule.

ADVANTAGES
Best price-performance ratio compared to traditional rubber and plastic coatings; exceptional physical-chemical resistance of the polyurethane polymers which lead to new technological applications which are impossible to realise with rubber or plastics.

LAST – MECC
Basso’s LAST – MECC polyurethane coatings

CHARACTERISTICS
The coatings are derived from carefully selected raw materials – raw materials acquired from the most qualified suppliers from around the world. They then undergo processes using formulas developed as a result of Basso Tullio s.n.c.’s vast experience.

ADVANTAGES
Resistant to abrasion; high degree of tensile strength; resistant to cutting; excellent noise abatement properties; outstanding damping of stress to mechanical organs; high load bearing capacity; resistant to linear, intermittent and continuous pressure; chemical inertness to oil and grease attack; resistant to paints, inks, gasoline and oil-based solvents; stable when in contact with ozone; resistant to sunlight and general weather conditions; high physical and chemical stability in hot and cold temperatures ranging from –30 to +95 degrees centigrade; hardnesses available from 20 Shore A to 75 Shore D.

Why use polyurethane coatings instead of rubber coatings

FIELD OF APPLICATION
The production of technical articles and roller and wheel coatings ranges between 60 and 95 Shore A.

ADVANTAGES
2 to 5 times more tensile strength than rubber; 2 to 6 times greater extensibility than rubber; loss from sliding abrasion up to 10 times less than rubber; loss from cutting abrasion up to 15 times less than rubber; loss from impact abrasion up to 10 times less than rubber. These advantages together with an exceptional resistance to attack by oils and solvents make polyurethane coatings not just competitive, but indispensable in many applications.

Why use polyurethane instead of plastic

ADVANTAGES
Greater resistance to abrasion, impact and deflection compared to plastic; excellent elastic memory; less intrinsic brittleness compared to plastic; greater extensibility compared to plastic; even the hardest formulations retain these qualities.

Polyurethane protects metals

ADVANTAGES
Metal cores coated in polyurethane are protected against abrasion, oxidation and mechanical stress; the elastomeric coating has excellent mechanical stress damping and noise abatement properties; by varying the coefficient of friction, both through the formulation and mechanically, the coating improves the drawing capacity of conveyor belts, abrasive belts, paper and cardboard sheets, reels of paper, cardboard and plastic, wooden pallets, boxes and crates, metal parts, stone slabs, etc…; special formulations even drastically reduce wear on metal parts which are affected by grit during the sandblasting procedure.
